How to cope with Swollen Feet
Do your feet look like this? |
Here are some useful suggestions for people who regularly suffer from swollen feet:
- If you have not consulted your doctor - see your doctor as soon as possible
- Take medication as directed by your doctor
- Wear support stockings
- Wear suitable shoes
- Eat a sensible diet - moderate your salt intake, try to carefully lose any excess weight
- Elevate your legs above your heart for a few hours during the day (lie down to do this)
- Some people find it useful to use wedges in their bed to elevate their feet at night
- Drink plenty of water (within normal amounts)
- Exercise regularly within your normal capabilities. Too little exercise is bad for your health and too much will make your feet worse. You need to find the right balance.
- Avoid standing still for long periods
- Avoid sitting still for long periods
- If your feet are hot, cool them by soaking your feet for 10-15 minutes in cool water
